WhitsonLaw Expands Divorce Client Support With Appointment of John J. Haverlick, LCSW-R
WhitsonLaw welcomes John J. Haverlick, LCSW-R, as Divorce Support Consultant, expanding coordinated support for New York family law clients.
SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY, UNITED STATES, August 25, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- WhitsonLaw PLLC, a family and matrimonial law firm serving clients across Upstate New York, announced that John J. Haverlick, LCSW-R, has joined the firm as Divorce Support Consultant, effective 12 August 2026. The newly established role expands the firm’s client-centered approach by providing practical, non-clinical support to people navigating the emotional strain and major decisions that often accompany divorce, child custody and other family law matters.
“Divorce clients are often asked to make decisions that may affect their families, finances and futures while they are under tremendous stress,” said Debra Whitson, founder of WhitsonLaw. “John brings decades of experience helping people remain grounded during difficult transitions. His work will help our clients arrive at important legal milestones better prepared to understand their options and participate meaningfully in their legal strategy.”
Support Alongside Legal Representation
Haverlick will work alongside each client’s WhitsonLaw attorney, not in place of legal counsel. While the attorney remains responsible for legal advice, strategy and representation, Haverlick will help clients manage the practical and emotional challenges surrounding the legal process.
His support may include helping clients prepare for mediation sessions, depositions, custody evaluations and court appearances; manage difficult emotions without allowing immediate reactions to drive legal decisions; improve communication with a co-parent; and organize their concerns and priorities before major discussions or decisions.
The Divorce Support Consultant role is not therapy. Haverlick will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions in this capacity, and the service is not a substitute for ongoing mental health care. When a client’s needs extend beyond the role’s consultative scope, the client may be referred to an independent licensed clinician. Legal advice and representation will remain with the client’s WhitsonLaw attorney.
Meet John J. Haverlick, LCSW-R
Haverlick brings more than 50 years of experience helping children, families and couples recognize their strengths and develop resilience during periods of stress and change. He earned his degree from the Columbia University School of Social Work and completed postgraduate training at The Center for Family Learning.
He is a Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work and a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Haverlick has also completed Interdisciplinary Collaborative Divorce Training and Mediation Training and is a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.
Addressing the Human Side of Family Law
Divorce and custody matters often require clients to absorb complex information and make consequential decisions while coping with grief, anger, fear or uncertainty. Those pressures can affect communication, increase conflict and make it harder for clients to evaluate legal guidance.
WhitsonLaw created the Divorce Support Consultant role to address the gap between legal representation and the practical support clients may need to remain engaged in their cases.
“Legal strategy is most effective when clients feel steady enough to understand and use it,” Whitson said. “John helps close the gap between knowing the available legal options and being prepared to act on them with clarity.”
