Majority of US Democratic Primary Voters Back Sanctions on Israel
The poll, conducted by YouGov, a UK-based global polling company, for the Institute for Middle East Understanding (IMEU) Policy Project, a Washington-based advocacy organization supporting Palestinian rights, and Gen-Z for Change, a youth-driven progressive advocacy group, surveyed more than 1,200 probable Democratic primary voters.
Results showed that 65% of participants favor sanctions on Israel, 72% believe Israel is perpetrating genocide in Gaza, and 75% oppose renewing the US memorandum of understanding that allocates yearly weapons funding to Israel.
When asked about particular actions, 76% supported banning credit extensions via Israeli bonds, 75% favored limiting imports of Israeli-manufactured weapons and cybersecurity software, and 62% backed barring Israeli officials and soldiers from entering the US.
“As we all witness the ongoing genocide being committed by Israel against Palestinians with our tax dollars, Democratic voters are saying clearly the time has come for comprehensive accountability measures against Israel,” Margaret DeReus, executive director of the IMEU Policy Project, stated.
