The incident took place Friday evening in a square in Iranshahr County, when police launched an operation against the armed individuals, who were allegedly "disrupting public security." Some of the gunmen were injured, but others escaped, prompting a manhunt. The slain officer was identified as Ramin Sadeqi.
Sistan and Baluchestan, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, has experienced multiple attacks targeting both civilians and security forces in recent years. On Sunday, one officer was killed and another injured in a separate attack in Saravan County by a group described as "terrorists."
